According to NITI Aayog's (MPI) National multidimensional poverty index in 2023, The rural areas of India experienced 19.28% of multidimensional poverty while India' s total population experienced 14.96% of multidimensional poverty.

Multidimensional poverty covers all the basic aspects of poverty i-e education, food and all other basic human needs.
